In commemoration of the World Day of Social Justice, held annually on February 20, Kenna Partners, in collaboration with the Centre for Legal Support and Inmate Rehabilitation (CELSIR), reaffirmed its commitment to advancing equitable legal access through an insightful justice awareness session at the Ikoyi Medium Security Custodial Centre.
The initiative, aimed at bridging the knowledge gap for incarcerated individuals, brought together legal experts, including representatives from the Ministry of Justice, restorative justice advocates, and Kenna Partners’ legal professionals.
Leading the firm’s counsel delegation was Senior Associate Johnchyrso Eze, who provided in-depth responses to pressing legal questions from inmates seeking clarity on their cases. He was joined by Associate, Chidera Mbaogu alongside the Sustainability and Development Manager, Funmilayo Adeshina. The session covered key areas such as legal rights, trial proceedings, and the plea-bargaining procedure, which is often misunderstood but remains a crucial tool for expedited justice.
Speaking on the significance of the initiative, Ms. Adeshina emphasised its alignment with the firm’s broader mission of fostering access to justice. “At Kenna Partners, we believe that justice should be accessible to all, regardless of circumstance. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to ensuring that even the most vulnerable in society understand their rights and have a fair chance at justice.”
For many in attendance, this session marked the first time they truly understood their legal standing and available options. Through initiatives like this, Kenna Partners continues to champion legal awareness and equity, reinforcing the principle that justice should not be a privilege but a right accessible to all.
