Sunday Obia is an Associate in Kenna Partners who is actively involved in the Firm’s Dispute Resolution, Banking and Finance, and Corporate and Commercial Law, as well as Investments and Corporate Finance. He represents public and private corporations, international oil companies (IOCs), apex bank, commercial banks and other financial institutions on various aspects of regulatory compliance, corporate governance, taxation, policy formulation and implementation, oil and gas exploration, litigation and alternative dispute resolution, labour and employment disputes as well as real estate.
Sunday has extensive experience representing international oil companies (IOCs) regarding the tax aspects of oil and gas exploration, licencing, and compliance. He possesses ample experience with all the industry issues and negotiation dynamics for each link of a project, including advisory and legal representation of clients. His expertise in representing both local and international corporations across various stages of transactions, alternative dispute resolution, negation and litigation adds a unique versatility to his practice, offering clients a comprehensive and bespoke perspective.
He provides sound policy advisory to international clients that are active in international trade, on various domestic and cross border tax, banking licencing, corporate governance, climate change and oil and gas exploration. He also focuses on banker customer relationship between the commercial banks and the customers.
In addition, Sunday works with the Firm’s Litigation practice to act for both Claimants and Defendants in group litigation, professional negligence, employment dispute, cross-border and arbitration proceedings and has considerable experience of all aspects of the legal and procedural intricacies of such cases. Despite Sunday’s in-depth litigation experience, he prefers amicable settlement, when possible, therefore, he leverages his dispute experience to advise clients on the front end of matters on approaches and strategies to minimize the likelihood of even resorting to dispute.
